‘Valencia must prove themselves’

Ricardo Costa has asserted that Valencia must focus on their own task in hand and prove that they are worthy of Champions League qualification.

Los Che will come out of the international break next week to face Atletico Madrid, two points and a place below Real Sociedad in the fourth and final Champions League qualification spot.

With Malaga and Real coming up in the next few weeks too, Atleti kick off a crucial run of fixtures for the side that defeated Real Betis last weekend.

“I believe that we have to win against our direct opponents,” Costa told reporters today.

“Our schedule is difficult, but we have to win and think of each game as they come.

“We will face up to them at the Vicente Calderon, almost everyone here is recovered fit. We are going there to win.

“If we do our job, we can ensure the points for Champions League qualification. We have to think like this because if we are playing in the Champions League we have to prove it.”

The centre-back returned to action in a friendly for Valencia yesterday against Castellon.

“The feelings were very good. I was at pace and I am ready to play against Atletico Madrid.”
