Negredo: Future down to Del Nido

Alvaro Negredo has asserted that his goals are useless with Sevilla’s progression, but made clear he will only leave if the President sees fit.

The Andalucians are rumoured to be open to the sale of any one of their first team players in the summer, in an attempt to balance the books, with a reported debt of €50m to contend with.

Negredo is seen as the club’s most viable asset, but has already seen Jose Maria del Nido declare that he won’t be sold. The striker has followed this up today with a similar message.

“I’m happy here. If the President says that he will not sell, there are other players that can go,” Negredo told a Press conference today.

“He will seek what is best for the club and if I have to leave then it is because he sees fit, looking for the best solution. But I am calm and at ease here.

“This city and this team have given me a lot. In the end, we are all in the shop window. I want to finish the season here and then the President will decide. For better or for worse, we will all benefit.”

The Spain international has 20 goals in League and Cup for Sevilla this season, but does not see value in having already surpassed last year’s personal tally in light of the team’s position of 12th in the League.

“In the end what matters is the collective. If one scores goals but the objectives are not achieved, then they are useless. What I want is that Sevilla are in the position that they have to be in.

“We should look at 11th, 10th…that is the best way to grow. We are not thinking about Malaga and Betis because that would be wrong. We are going day by day.

“To not get into Europe would be a big setback. First for the prestige of the club and second for the economic contribution.

“This club became even bigger when it began to play in Europe and win things. We have to remain calm as not entering Europe would be a big setback.”
