Mel: Betis in Europe is science fiction

Real Betis boss Pepe Mel has insisted that his side will have had a successful season, whatever the outcome.

The Verdiblancos are currently seventh in La Liga, just three points off of Malaga in the last remaining Champions League place.

But the 50-year-old has claimed that his men will have done well whether they make it to Europe or not, whilst also commenting on this weekend's match against Osasuna.

“The discourse may have changed at this club,” he told a Press conference. “But failing to achieve continental qualification will never be a failure.

“We will fight to get into Europe, of course we will. We are just excited to be around those places. There are 12 games to go.

“But for Betis to be in the Champions League sounds like science fiction.

“Osasuna are a tough team with some good players,” Mel added. “Games against them are never easy.”
