Mel: Betis won’t stop

Pepe Mel is hopeful that Real Betis’ win over Malaga is a sign of things to come, as he sympathises with Manuel Pellegrini’s men.

After defeat to Porto in the Champions League in midweek, Malaga were hit 3-0 by Betis on Sunday evening, in what Los Beticos’ Coach felt was a good example of burnout.

“We had a very complete first half, whilst this also demonstrated that a team in more than one competition will usually suffer,” commented Mel at full-time.

“It happened to us in January when we went to Vallecas tired after our Copa del Rey match the previous week. But we were eliminated from that competition and we today we were at the level we intended to be at.

“We are close to the target and further from the relegation zone. We wanted to hit them in the first 25 minutes, to take the ball and not to suffer. At this rate we are a good team, important.

“Now what I want is to regain my troops, because we can be better. We can see if there is no difference in the presence of Juan Carlos.

“Pabon will help us, Ruben already… We have almost 40 points but we refuse to stop and we will keep going until the end.

“We want the best for Betis, like any betico.”
