Urrutia: Athletic deserve results

Athletic Bilbao’s President Josu Urrutia has expressed his confidence in the team after a downturn in results.

The Basques have lost consecutive games at home to Espanyol and away to Malaga to continue what has been a disappointing season from last year’s Copa del Rey and Europa League finalists.

“Although in recent games we have not been getting the results we deserve, I trust the involvement and commitment that the team are showing,” Urrutia told reporters this week.

“Hopefully they will continue along this line and also have a little more success, because I think that is what we deserve.”

This Friday evening is the Basque derby with Real Sociedad and if recent games are any indication, Athletic will have someone sent off. La Real have seen opponents in each of the last eight League games shown a red card.

“I could not follow the games of La Real, but this draws attention because I think it is a situation that rarely happens.

“I do not remember previous cases very well, in which a team for eight consecutive games has played against 10 men.

“I hope that things go well for us. I can only focus on my team, I hope they can be at their best level and if we score, then surely the three points will stay at home.”
