Diego Colotto has reiterated Javier Aguirre’s message from the weekend, that Espanyol are only intent on avoiding relegation this season.
Los Periquitos have won six out of the last eight League games to turn around their season and move into mid-table security.
Whilst the side are now closer to Europe than they are the relegation zone, Colotto is keen to stress that Aguirre’s focus on League survival first is mirrored in the dressing room.
“The goal is very clear – survival. After that there will be time to think about other things, but now we must take the positive momentum,” the Argentine told reporters after training today.
“Recent results are reaffirming the reaction we have had. We want to continue to stretch our advantage over the other teams at the bottom of the table.
“To achieve this, we must work with a positive dynamic, with Aguirre the team has turned around and is doing what we have all wanted.
“Whenever there is a change it generates new expectations and excitement. From the start the team has been growing and improving. Now the team goes on the field believe that they can win, they have a culture and identity that should not change.”
