Valverde: No contract offer

Ernesto Valverde has confirmed that he has yet to receive a contract from Valencia and that if he were, both parties would have to want to renew.

The Coach is speculated today as delaying opening talks on signing an extension to his contract that expires this summer until he knows the future of President Manuel Llorente and sporting director Braulio Vazquez.

Asked today on the issue and whether or not he would sign a new deal, Valverde was elusive in his answer.

“They are happy, but have not said anything about a new contract,” commented the former Olympiacos boss.

“When considering a new contract it depends on the club and me. If the club wants me to continue then they have to tell me and I have to think about it.

“It may be thought that we are doing well now, but football is a day by day business.”

Valverde was talking in his pre-match Press conference before Los Che welcome Mallorca to Mestalla this Sunday.

The players were called to a 45-minute video session to analyse the midweek Champions League defeat at home to Paris Saint-Germain.

“It was for our consideration. What we are attempting is not to review the errors of the previous match, but the team does have tendencies that we think can be improved.

“Starting tomorrow with the preparations for the match with Mallorca.

“The PSG game? We always try to win, however hard the games may be, we try to take something out of them.

“It is clear that the other day we scored a goal that has given us hope for the return leg, but it is also true that we had expected to do better.

“On the one hand it is clear that we were not allowed to do better by our opponents, on the other it is clear that there are some mistakes that need correcting. And the players are aware of this.

“The Mallorca game is three important points for us and, moreover, we have to become strong at home as that is where we can push harder with our game.”
