Simeone: Fans should be proud

Atletico Madrid have broken a club record for consecutive League wins at home, leaving their Coach Diego Simeone very proud.

Atleti secured a 1-0 win over Real Betis on Sunday evening to make it 13 wins in a row at the Vicente Calderon in La Liga, breaking a club record held since 1939-40 and 1940-41.

“If I were a fan of Atletico Madrid, I would be proud of the players,” enthused Simeone at full-time yesterday.

“It was almost the same team as Thursday against Sevilla in the Cup, we played a great game against a great opponent who were fourth in the table.

“It is another great effort and we have gotten the three points against.”

The Coach commented on Mario Suarez, who has been called up to the Spain squad in Xabi Alonso’s place.

“In the Cup I have always played Mario. He makes headlines that few see. In the position where he is, he gives as much vitality as is possible and that is what we strive for.

“Mario has had a good season and this is an important step for him and hopefully he will enjoy it and he will improve. Mario has no roof.”
