Mel: Betis did suffer

Pepe Mel reflected that his Real Betis team were not great in defeating Las Palmas last night, but that at least they are through.

The Andalucians won through 1-0 on the night and 2-1 on aggregate to secure a quarter-final spot in the Copa del Rey, but their Coach admitted that it wasn’t so easy.

“We have suffered, but we have won and so that is normal, because in football it is tough to achieve something,” Mel told reporters.

“If we do not do things to 100 per cent then we are better than no-one and today Las Palmas, who are a good team, have done things simple.

“They also gave us a little scare and we realised that we could have been eliminated, but the important thing is that we have qualified for the quarter-finals against Atletico.

“Now we think towards Levante in the League, who are the worst opponent we can now come across as they are comfortable without the ball, who wait for you to make a mistake.

“They give you space to attack in, and we have to because we are required to win at the Villamarin. That game is a great trap.”
