Herrera: Madrid good, Celta poor

Paco Herrera has reflected that whilst Real Madrid were very good in victory, his Celta Vigo also struggled to do anything in defeat.

The Galicians are out of the Copa del Rey now after Wednesday evening’s 4-0 defeat at the Bernabeu settled the Last 16 clash 5-2 on aggregate in favour of Madrid.

“The last five minutes are a story of the rest of the game. During the other 85 minutes, we were at 2-0 and set to be eliminated,” began Herrera in reflection post-match.

“The team found no comfort, we were not good in the first half. We wanted to be but could not. In addition, the first goal came without a single play previous towards goal, Cristiano appears and hits it and scores.

“I applaud it as it was a goal from outside the penalty area. That then made the tie very difficult for us.

“Other than that, we still had hope going into the final five minutes, but Iker has made some very good saves. The team was not happy and that took its toll.

“Whenever I find that our team is not playing easily or confidently, like here, I value two possibilities. One, that we are doing very poorly, or two, that the opponent, like Real Madrid here, were very good. Today [Wednesday] the opponent has done very well, but we were also doing very badly when we had the ball, we were not able to manage two passes in a row.”
