Albelda puts talks on hold

Valencia captain David Albelda has revealed that talks over a new contract at the club will not happen until the summer.

The 35-year-old has made over 300 appearances for Los Che since debuting for them in 1996 and bar two loan spells at Villarreal, has played for no-one else.

His contract expires at the end of the season and even though he has returned to first-team affairs under Ernesto Valverde, he will not be discussing any possible new deal until the summer.

“It is the same as in other years, renewing or not for me is no longer a major issue,” the veteran told reporters today.

“I’m going to remain in this situation until the season ends. I am not concerned and I do not think the club are either.

“I can rest easy in this regard and it is not because I have played five or six games recently that now is the time to speak.

“For me it is an issue that does not exist until the season ends. I have to evaluate many things and playing more or less will not influence things – I am settled until the end of the season.”
