Valverde confirms Guaita start

Valencia Coach Ernesto Valverde has revealed that Vicente Guaita will start in goal against Osasuna in the Copa del Rey tomorrow.

Los Che welcome Los Rojillos to Mestalla with a 2-0 lead to defend in their Last 16 tie. Guaita and Diego Alves have shared the no 1 jersey between them this term, with the Brazilian generally getting the nod in La Liga and the Spaniard seeing more Champions League action.

“Tomorrow there will be changes in order to guarantee a team that can win the game and get through the tie,” Valverde began in his pre-match Press conference.

“Guaita will play. I have not talked to him, but I’ve saw him compete. We haven’t changed the dynamics of the ‘keepers, but it all depends on performance.”

The former Olympiakos trainer explained his decision to play Mexican midfielder Andres Guardado at left-back, and appealed to fans to attend the game.

“Guardado and [Aly] Cissokho are good players, they’re different. Guardado is used to attacking because he’s played in midfield, Aly is strong in terms of strategy. I have two, and I have to decide which to use.

“The fans are more motivated when we play Barcelona or Real Madrid, it happens everywhere. Tomorrow we start the match 2-0 up, but we need that push that the public give us, which helps you to overcome the bad times.”

Finally Valverde reacted to rumours regarding a contract extension for veteran David Albelda.

“He brings a lot of experience, and can help us finish the season, but it is an issue for the club, my mission is to get the best out of the players.”
