Mendilibar irked by decisions

Osasuna boss Jose Luis Mendilibar has confessed to being concerned by his side’s poor form of late.

Los Rojillos were resurgent throughout November but have now lost three of their last four and slipped back down to the bottom of the table. They were defeated 1-0 by Sevilla on Saturday.

“If I was not worried I would be an idiot,” stated the always frank tactician in a media briefing. “We’re not winning, and even when we do enough to win, it’s taken away.”

That last comment was a pointed reference to refereeing errors Mendilibar believes have penalised his side of late.

“We can only protest. I don’t think they’re biased against us, but it does seem to be easier to whistle against Osasuna than it is for other teams.”

Turning to tomorrow’s Copa del Rey Last 16 second leg against Valencia, the Basque was slightly more optimistic about recovering the 2-0 deficit than he was in the immediate aftermath of the first leg.

“The result does not help to make it a game with good prospects, everything is in their favour, but you have to play and try to win first, then we’ll see.

“We will create difficulties, and be competitive, not just spend the afternoon there.”
