Herrera: Aspas not at same level

Paco Herrera has warned that he sees Iago Aspas affected by the transfer rumours linking him with a move away from Celta Vigo.

The striker has netted six times in La Liga this season for the Galicians and has attracted a lot of praise for his performances.

Whilst his Coach Herrera looked to make clear that the player will not be leaving in the short term, he has warned that the transfer rumours may have already done their damage.

“The President has made it clear that Iago will not leave until the end of the season, so I am calm. What worries me is that he could be lost in other things,” Herrera told reporters this week.

“What concerns me is that Iago has his head filled with nonsense. He is not at the same level as when he started the season.

“He began in the League in spectacular fashion and everyone spoke of his explosion, and no-one could stop him in La Primera.

“But the reality is that he is now not at the same pace, and that worries me because we need 100 per cent.

“The praise is affecting his creativity, because he himself is creating very large expectations. And he did not have to do anything special to get attention, it is not necessary.

“In his mind there can only be a disappointment for wanting to show more of what is necessary, and that is what worries me because in terms of work and delivery there are no doubts. He always gives everything.”
