Ballesteros sees historical 2012

Sergio Ballesteros has reflected that 2012 has been a memorable year for Levante and one that may go down in its history.

After an impressive 2011-12 campaign, Los Granotes qualified for European competition for the first time in their history.

The club have continued their top-half-of-the-table form into 2012-13 and have progressed to the knockout stages of the Europa League.

“This is a year that everyone will remember over time. Maybe it has become the most important season for this club. We qualified for Europe, reached the group stage and were also League leaders early last season,” reflected the bulky defender to reporters this week.

“We can always improve and we will work to keep improving and reaching further targets. We should always have in mind who we are and where we are.

“Beginning from humility and knowing that objectives still remain, then we can see what happens. Our first target is League survival.”

The year 2013 kicks off next weekend with the Saturday visit of Athletic Bilbao.

“It is the first home game of the year. Much is at stake. We want to reach 30 points. We want to start the year with a victory at home, improving on the points tally we managed in the first round of fixtures from last season.

“We want to put in a good performance and do well and then everything else will come.”
