Mel: Betis were lucky this time

Pepe Mel has admitted that Real Betis were lucky to win at Celta Vigo on Monday, whilst he also reveals what he would like for Christmas.

The Seville outfit won 1-0 at Balaidos thanks to Jorge Molina’s late goal in a game that their Coach recognised was an even affair.

“Today we had that bit of luck to win, because Celta did not deserve to lose. We did not deserve to lose against Barcelona last weekend and today the result fairly could have been 1-1, 0-0 or 2-2,” commented Mel at the end, before trying to focus his players, with the team sat fifth in the table.

“Our top priority is to ensure League survival. We are a club with financial problems and we are using many young players.

“Now we are living the dream, we have to hold on to it and not let go. It would be a wonderful holiday if we went beyond 30 points because then we would be very close to our target, which is nothing other than survival.

“The thing for this club is to be in the Primera Division.”

Betis’ chance of reaching 31 points for Christmas comes at home to Mallorca on Saturday.

“It will be a difficult game. To win this game we have to have at least the same intensity that we showed today [on Monday]. The players have made a great effort here, I’m very happy.

“Celta are a team that works and plays good football, it is a shame they are not having greater success in front of goal because otherwise they would be somewhere else.”
