Valverde rues Valencia impotence

Ernesto Valverde believes that Valencia were the stronger side on Sunday, but lost to Rayo Vallecano as they did not generate enough in attack.

Los Che fell to a 1-0 defeat at Mestalla thanks to a Chori Dominguez penalty late on and for their Coach, it was a case of not doing enough at the other end to counter it.

“We were the strong team, but we have not generated anything in attack and, although we have not suffered in defence, we have lost,” reflected Valverde on the result.

“We like to have the ball so as to generate goalscoring situations. Today [Sunday] we did not attack well, we have created no danger because we lacked vertical movement and in the end the reality is we lacked potency in the final third.”

This was Valverde’s debut at Mestalla, after three consecutive away games since taking charge, all of which were wins. The crowd ended the game protesting once more for the departure of President Manuel Llorente.

“Away we have been comfortable, but at Mestalla we lack a bit of grace in attack, it is not normal to create so few chances.

“I have had little time here, I know little about the fans and yes I can say that Valencia conceded five in their last home game and have lost this one, but I am responsible for this defeat.”
