Mario Suarez has conceded that Atletico Madrid were beaten by the best there is on Sunday evening.
Atleti fell to a 4-1 defeat to Barcelona in Week 16 and in seeing their second place in the table fall nine points back to the Catalans, their midfielder Suarez sees the gulf in class as significant.
“Atletico are a great club, but Barcelona are the biggest in the world and they are a step above us,” reflected the 25-year-old in defeat.
“We have not taken advantage of our scoring chances and that has made the difference against the best team in the world.
“We did play a very good first half an hour, but their second goal before half-time hurt us and in the favour of the game and in the space provided, they were unforgiving.”
