‘Betis could have decided tie’

Pepe Mel reflected that Real Betis got what they deserved in the Copa del Rey last night for failing to take advantage of their chances.

The Seville side drew 1-1 with Segunda outfit Las Palmas in the first leg of this Last 16 clash, much to Mel’s annoyance.

“We could have won without any problems, we are not happy because we could have decided the tie here,” commented the Coach afterwards.

“This was two teams that were looking to score. The goalkeepers did a good job. We have had 11 shots, and only managed the one goal, which is a poor end result to what was done on the field.

“Although we have an advantage for the second leg [the away goal], this is a football game that begins scoreless and Las Palmas are a good team, as they have shown.

“A goal is not the only thing that we came here for, but the result is what it is, we cannot change that.”
