‘Espanyol will pay all season’

Diego Colotto has admitted that Espanyol will not be able to shake the effects of their poor start to the season for the rest of the campaign.

Los Pericos are still stuck on just the two wins from the opening 15 rounds of action and are currently sat 19th in the table on 11 points.

“We are going to pay for the poor start we have had all through the season. The fight against relegation will be long, but we will fight,” commented Colotto to reporters today.

The centre-back at least had a more positive outlook when talking of the impact Javier Aguirre has had since coming in as Coach.

“Both at Granada and against Sevilla we delivered more, we had attitude and a philosophy, with an air of renewal.

“We have laid a foundation of order, attitude and sacrifice, a makeover that the team needed. We have a healthy group, competitive and I hope every week to earn my place in the team.”

Espanyol’s next League fixture is a trip out to face Real Madrid.

“Theirs is a field that is difficult to win at. Both they and Barcelona have stars that can decide games the most. The more we aid them with our mistakes, the less likely it is that we will get a result.”
