Marcelo Bielsa admitted that Athletic Bilbao’s performance against Celta Vigo gradually declined, but still hopes for some continuity out of the result.
The Basques won 1-0 thanks to Aritz Aduriz’ first-half goal, but their Coach reflected that it was not an easy game to win.
“The game did not start well and although we had the ball, there was a lot of alarm to Celta’s attacks,” Bielsa told reporters afterwards.
“Later, we made some concessions in play that may have been to do with the narrow score and that the opponent had placed five offensive players on the pitch.
“Against this backdrop we were unable to retain our advantage, perhaps we are worse at home.
“We deserve to win games, to shorten the gap with the teams that are better and impose our strength over inferior teams.
“If we do that, we will see a natural progression. We must try and generate some continuity to get some positive results, that is what strengthens the team and adds to our self-esteem.”
