Valverde: No-one wants to go

New Valencia Coach Ernesto Valverde says that no-one has asked to leave the club, but that he recognises that the team must start winning, soon.

Los Che brought in former Espanyol and Olympiacos man Valverde after last weekend’s 5-2 home defeat ended Mauricio Pellegrino’s brief tenure.

In meeting the players and holding training for the first time yesterday, Valverde was asked this morning if any of them had made clear their intention to leave.

Fernando Gago reportedly expressed such a desire in the aftermath of Pellegrino’s sacking, whilst David Albelda and Ricardo Costa have both spoken since of asking anyone who doesn’t want to be at the club to make it clear and to go.

“In the first talk with the team at no time did anyone say that they wanted to leave, they did not use those words,” Valverde made clear to the Press today.

“The first day everyone was talking about many things, but I think that the players like to play well and that is what we will try to do.

“Certainly it is important in training for the players to pick up on my concepts, but we are hard pressed and I am aware of that. We should go slowly, but by winning games.”

The tactician was brief on his first opponents as Valencia boss, Osasuna.

“They are a team with a great attitude, they play with great force.”
