Pepe Mel is looking to become only the fifth different Coach in Real Betis’ history to defeat Real Madrid and Barcelona at home in the same season.
After beating Madrid 1-0 two weeks ago at the Benito Villamarin, Mel and Betis welcome League leaders Barca to Seville for Week 15’s encounter.
Whilst a win for Betis would mean a first defeat of the season for the Catalans after their record-breaking start, it would also see Coach Mel join a small list of men.
Only Patrick O’Connell in 1933-34 and 1934-35, Luis Hom in 1964-65, Juande Ramos in 2001-02 and Paco Chaparro in 2007-08 have previously managed to defeat both Real Madrid and Barcelona at home in the same League campaign.
The weekend fixture could also see Lionel Messi equal or break Gerd Muller’s goalscoring record for strikes in a calendar year, if he is passed fit to feature.
