Real Madrid assistant Coach Aitor Karanka has dismissed the stories surrounding Jose Mourinho’s future as rumours.

In what is fast becoming a Friday morning tradition, Karanka filled in for Mourinho at his Press conference previewing the weekend’s game, against Real Valladolid tomorrow at the Estadio Nuevo Jose Zorrilla.

The main topic for discussion was the speculation which has dominated the news agenda this week regarding Mourinho’s possible departure and links with Paris Saint-Germain.

“My future is here with Mourinho,” the former Merengues centre back began. “We’re tired of saying that we do not believe the rumours. I’ve been here for two and a half years with him, he reflects his strength on the field and in the office.

“The Coach has already said his relationship with the President is good. Again, these are just rumours. PSG? Their President has already said it is not true.”

Karanka, who said ‘various alternatives’ are being considered to replace the injured Fabio Coentrao, went on to speak of Valladolid’s capabilities and the draw for the last 16 of the Champions League.

“They are a newly promoted side but they are having a good season and playing good football. We’re only thinking about winning.

“The boss has already said that finishing second [in Group D] isn’t a disaster. Any rival in the second round will be difficult.”
