Vazquez eager for Espanyol reunion

Alvaro Vazquez is looking forward to returning to Espanyol this weekend with his current side Getafe.

The promising Under-21 striker left Los Pericos for the Madrid side late in the summer transfer window after failing to resolve a contract dispute.

Sunday lunchtime’s fixture is the youngster’s first chance to play in front of the Cornella-El Prat crowd since.

“It’s a special game, a game you want to play in and it has finally arrived,” he enthused to reporters today.

“I will see my family cheering, I will be happy on the field and to return to my country. I do not know how I will be received by the fans, I’ll be into the game, which will be difficult with Espanyol’s situation as the bottom club.

“And if I score I will not celebrate. I am grateful to have been with the club and for them giving me the opportunity to play in La Primera.

“They are going through a bad situation, but they are a fighting team, they will move up the table and will thrive.

“For us it is a game to be defined as three points if we can be on top, and if not then we will be fighting to be on top.”

The striker has struggled in front of goal so far this season and reflected on facing a defence that will likely be familiar with his movement.

“Like I know them, they will know me and it can be a double-edged sword. They are working very well and I will try to make moves to create space for they will know me.

“Personally I am still working the same, trying to the best I can to make it difficult for people and score goals from time to time, they will come when least expected.

“I will work to achieve the highest number possible.”
