Negredo urges Sevilla to win

Alvaro Negredo believes that whilst Real Betis are favourites for Sunday’s derby, form and statistics count for little, whilst Sevilla need the win.

Sunday evening sees Los Beticos make the short journey across the city to the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan for the Derbi Sevillano and Negredo has focused on what to expect.

“It’s a different game and we have to win it as it is,” commented the Spain striker.

“Right now, if you look at the standings, they would be favourites. I would say that they arrive into the fixture in the better form, but we both do so having lost.

“Both Benat and Ruben Castro are having a good season, they are the players that most identify Betis with, but the team also have many other things, such as their strength on the counterattack.

“They have managed quite a few goals whilst we have managed to win games ourselves but without scoring too many.

“We are doing things fairly well, but I think that this will be a totally different game. Here the statistics have no worth.”

Coach Michel lambasted his players after defeat last weekend at Athletic Bilbao, which Negredo stood up for.

“He had every reason in the world and we cannot do anything but shut up. Hopefully the reaction is reflected on the field this Sunday.

“The team is conscious, we know what we have to do and we expect the three points to stay with us.”
