Tito: Barca identify with Valdano

Barcelona Coach Tito Vilanova has thanked former Real Madrid  director Jorge Valdano for his words about Pep Guardiola.

Valdano yesterday praised Guardiola, who Vilanova worked as no. 2 for, calling him the 'Steve Jobs of football' for his innovative ways.

“I loved what he said, he has a way of understanding football that I like,” the tactician commented at a Press conference previewing tomorrow's game against Real Zaragoza at Camp Nou.

“Although he is Madrid, he would surely like the Barcelona game because it identifies a lot with him.”

Guardiola has also been voted LFP Coach of the Year despite losing out on last year's La Liga title to Madrid.

“If he has been chosen it is because he deserves it. Some might agree more or less, but if they give it it is right.”

Vilanova went on to discuss the latest outbreak of the 'FIFA virus', after Alexis Sanchez was injured on international duty.

“It's a shame for Alexis. He was at his best, from a physical point of view, since he arrived. The difference this week is jet lag, which is usually only a problem for South American players, but this time Spain played in Panama. There's nothing we can do, the selectors take the best.”

Barca have an important Champions League clash against Spartak Moscow next midweek but the 44-year-old isn't letting his players get ahead of theirselves.

“We know how difficult it is against Zaragoza. The Spanish League does not let you relax. What's most important is what is in close proximity, and that's Zaragoza.”

Vilanova was also asked about Carles Puyol's recovery from injury, Dani Alves' comments about the players being to blame for Guardiola's exit, and the baby boom taking place at the club.

“Puyol has had a few games training with the group and lacks match fitness. However since his elbow injury he has not stopped, and that's pretty great.

“Pep explained why he was leaving, and what he said was credible and true. Each person then interprets that how they want.

“The players will be more happier and joyful after the births. It's always good news. I congratulate [Victor] Valdes and Dr Ricard Pruna.”
