No excuses for Malaga says Iturra

Malaga midfielder Manuel Iturra says there are no excuses for his team’s recent La Liga form after losses in successive home games.

Despite having qualified for the knockout stages of the Champions League, Los Blanquiazules have struggled domestically with defeats to Rayo Vallecano and Real Sociedad, but Iturra feels tiredness is not to blame.

“When you are beaten then for me it is because the other team was better, so to look for explanations such as tiredness makes no sense,” he told AS.

“I don’t want to seek excuses because we didn’t expect to get no points from the last two home games against teams that, on paper, we should have beaten.

“However, after the Champions League games we need to rest from the travelling and be ready to play in La Liga, but it’s no justification.”

Even so, the Chilean was at a loss to explain the 2-1 loss to Real Sociedad at the weekend.

“A goal after just 47 seconds and then one after a deflection off one of our players did not help, but we now have a week to work on things and analyse where we went wrong,” he concluded.
