Mel rues poor first half

Pepe Mel believes that Real Betis’ inability to take control of midfield in the first half was likely the reason for defeat to Granada on Friday.

Week 11’s opening fixture yielded the surprise home defeat to Juan Antonio Anquela’s side and Mel reflected afterwards that his team failed to get going until it was too late.

“The first half was very hard, very frustrating, very vague,” admitted the Coach at the end.

“Granada’s goal has hurt us and I do not know why, since most of the game was still to play. We have been poor and our midfield were not at their best to take the game.

“The first half was a little heavy and the second was very different, with chances from Paulao and Perquis…

“One now looks forward to try and win the next game, because we have a big month, for us. We are not going to drop after this defeat.

“We cannot move forward this week, it is what it is. It is not worth saying whether it is deserved or not, because sometimes it is the other way around, you don’t deserve it and win.”
