Higuain renewal official ‘soon’

Gonzalo Higuain is reportedly on the verge of formalising his new contract at Real Madrid a few weeks earlier than anticipated.

Talks over a new deal first began in May, following on from the player being convinced to stay at the club.

It was expected that his extension of a year or two to his June 2016 deal would be announced in December, alongside a pay rise from €3.8m a season to €4.5m.

However, in light of his injury-enforced absence, the club are reported as having advanced the renegotiation to this month ‘as a sign of good faith’ in the player.

The news has emerged at the same time that the club are anticipated to be progressing in talks to renew Xabi Alonso’s contract.

Higuain’s extended run in the side this season has seen teammate Karim Benzema admit this week of an increasing frustration sat on the bench.
