Caparros: Barca always try to win

Joaquin Caparros isn't taking inspiration from Celtic’s midweek win over Barcelona, stating that Mallorca’s opponents are not affected by past results.

La Blaugrana fell to a 2-1 defeat in the midweek trip to Scotland, but as the Catalans’ next host this Sunday evening, Caparros believes that Mallorca will still need nothing short of perfection to get a result.

“Yes we need a perfect game, both defensively and offensively, and that’s always very difficult. A perfect match yes, as a good match is not enough,” admitted the Coach to Mundo Deportivo today.

“Celtic in midweek, their goalkeeper had an outstanding performance, they then reached Barca’s area twice and scored twice, showing maximum efficiency.

“But, this Barca are not based on previous results, it does not depend on the previous game. Barca will try to win every time and is not affected by what happened three days ago. We have to be tight.”

Caparros is without a number of first team names through injury and this week was revealed to have told his remaining men to go easy on each other in training.

Even in this situation, the 57-year-old is insistent that he won’t be complaining about bad luck or a weakened side.

“Of course. I cannot do so. Mallorca are a collective. There are other players who will replace those we do not have available and they also have talent and quality.

“If I complained, it would be a moral blow for them. We would feel inferior and we are not. What is important is the work, to try to be a team, to transmit that we are a unit no matter what happens.

“If I need someone then from the B team or youth sides they are all deserving of a chance.”

The islanders head into this weekend off the back of a worst run in years, with five consecutive defeats to their name.

“We have five consecutive defeats. We have lacked concentration at specific moments over these games and have been given no respite.

“Some games we have lost by the smallest detail, except in the case of the Real Madrid result [0-5], which was terrible. That was not us, we gave a bad picture of ourselves, but we are in line to recover.

“We have trained with the intention of trying to play the game. We can do it, it takes strength, collaboration, sacrifice, friendship…”
