Jemez: Celta better than table says

Rayo Vallecano’s Paco Jemez believes that Saturday’s opponents Celta Vigo are in a position in the League that does not reflect their ability as a team.

Ahead of welcoming Celta to Madrid this weekend, Jemez chose to focus on the merits of his opponents, even if it is not reflected in their 15th place in the table.

“Their position does not correspond with the quality of their play, since they are doing a lot more right than they are bad,” the Coach told today’s conference.

“When I saw Celta play, what I have seen does not relate to where they are in the table. The fact that they are not having good results at the start of the season is that things have not always gone their way.

“I like what Celta do and how they do it.”

Even so, the Galicians arrive in Madrid this weekend with a poor away record this term, in all competitions listing six defeats from six.

“We’re going to try and continue that streak. Statistics are there to be taken into account, but Celta are a team that I like for how they are built, how they play, but it is clear that they are dropping points despite doing things right and not making huge errors.

“For us, though, there is no peace of mind that they have yet to get a point away.”

In contrast, Rayo go into the match off the back of their own impressive away win at Malaga last weekend.

“Every game is important, but some prove harder to win. I want my players to compete in each one and the idea is to work to get points in each of them.

“Saturday’s game will be more complicated because if we do not begin with the correct mindset then we will go wrong. We have worked this week trying to forget the Malaga win and focus only on the tough game with Celta.

“In their side they have a player who is excelling at the start of the season, Iago Aspas. He is a player who has been good for Celta, he is intelligent in the area, very fast and thinks quick and well.

“He is the reference and we have to be careful with him, because any error will see him take control of the play.”
