Javier Barkero has been handed a 12-month extension to his contract at Levante, tying him to the club until June 2014.
The midfielder is in his second season with the Valencian outfit and had become a fixed member of Coach Juan Ignacio Martinez’ starting line-up.
Barkero has agreed to an additional year on his current deal, which was otherwise due to expire next summer, with talks reportedly taking place very quickly.
It is also reported that the footballer has the option of adding a further year to the contract, if he makes at least 25 appearances for the team during the 2013-14 campaign. This clause is common practice at the club for most of their players aged 30 or over.
