Vazquez relives Bilbao goal

Getafe striker Alvaro Vazquez has reflected on his superb overhead kick against Athletic Bilbao, saying he used to do it in the street.

His acrobatic effort on 58 minutes was among the most watched goals of the weekend on television, and the former Espanyol man revealed it was something he perfected on the streets of Badalona.

“I like to do acrobatic shots. I’m from Badalona and I learned to play football in the street. You learn these kind of things there but it is something that is dying out,” he told assembled media.

“Only a few years ago I was playing in my neighbourhood where many young people got together. It was there that we spent the summer evenings playing football.

“As for my goal at Bilbao, it was a cross from [Juan] Valera that was helped on by Juan Rodriguez. I went for it with [Mikel] San Jose as it reached the penalty spot and went up in the air.

“I made a quick decision to do the overhead kick and it went in nicely,” he explained.
