Perotti delighted to be back

Diego Perotti admits he couldn’t breathe during his return to action for Sevilla after ‘a year of constant discomfort’.

The winger underwent surgery on a back injury at the end of last season and, although back in training by August, then suffered a muscle injury and only re-appeared for Los Rojiblancos in Monday night’s win over Mallorca.

“I couldn’t breathe, my legs were weighed down by nerves for playing again,” Perotti reflected to reporters today on his comeback.

“My head continues to focus a little on the injuries, it has been a year of constant discomfort. The mind is very powerful.

“I knew that this ordeal would end at some point, it could not be forever. The recovery from the operation was record time, but then came the calf issue.”

Perotti picked out Federico Fazio in particular for helping him through the struggles.

“Not only have I relied on him as a teammate, but also for our friendship. Although, all the guys have been concerned for me, hoping that I could return to play, because they know that, for me, being in the gym or on the stretcher is horrible.”
