Agirretxe: ‘Atleti defeat unfair’

Imanol Agirretxe has described Real Sociedad’s 1-0 defeat to Atletico Madrid as unfair, but is determined to look ahead.

La Real fell to a first defeat at Anoeta this season with Radamel Falcao’s last-gasp free-kick winner settling Sunday’s match in the Madrid side’s favour.

For the manner of the defeat, it was an unjust result, as far as Agirretxe was concerned.

“It was an unfair defeat because I do not know if we deserved to win, but we did not deserve to lose,” mused the striker today.

“But, this is football and what you deserve does not matter as much as the result. It was a tough game, we knew of Atletico’s form, we went into the game with great force, created chances, but Atleti’s defence was very good and they were good with the counter-attacks too.

“The fouls went against us, in their favour, and in the end they took advantage of one of them.”

However, Agirretxe is not dwelling on the past and is instead looking to next weekend already, and the prospect of trying to catch a first away win of the season.

“We have to forget the past and focus on Valladolid, analyse our away performances and go to Valladolid with the only goal of getting all three points in an important game. It won’t define the season, but it will still be important.

“We all want to get the points away from home, we are playing well, but the results have not arrived, we want to bring home a good result this time.”
