Jordi wanted to face Espanyol

Jordi Amat is disappointed to be unavailable to play for Rayo Vallecano against his owners Espanyol this weekend, whilst reflecting on his loan move.

The 20-year-old is with the Madrid minnows this season on loan from Los Pericos, but because of a clause in his transfer, is unavailable for Rayo’s trip this weekend to Cornella-El Prat.

“The clause does not allow me to play against Espanyol,” admitted the disappointed centre-back.

“I acknowledge that I would have liked to have played this match at ‘home’ and it would have been a good game. But that is a decision for the clubs.

“I’m super happy for the trust the Coach and Rayo have had in me. For me, Rayo has been a very positive step. I was after minutes, I wanted to improve and the truth is that they are giving me an opportunity to do both. It is great.

“Would I have had a place this season at Espanyol? It is very difficult to know. At Rayo I saw the opportunity to grow, to learn and to gain experience.”

The youngster briefly reflected to reporters of his parent club’s current predicament in the League, which sees them still without a win.

“Espanyol’s team is very good and they have a great Coach. I trust the players and the Coach can pull them out of the situation. They have to win games and I am sure they are working at 100 per cent.”
