Radio to pay €85 per La Liga game

Radio stations will have to pay €85 every time they want to broadcast a La Liga game, according to El Pais.

The Telecommunications Market Commission established a provisional fee of €98 to be paid to the Spanish League (LFP) at the start of the season, but after analysing information provided on certain clubs and stadiums it has decided to reduce the amount.

The figure includes the cost to clubs for the maintenance of broadcasting booths along with money for power consumption, cleaning and security.

The resolution puts an end to the conflict that pitted the LFP against virtually all the country’s radio stations, both public and private, when the broadcasters refused to pay for what they considered their fundamental right to information.

The stations were consequently forced to commentate on games from the stands, bars and even building adjacent to stadiums after clubs refused them entry.

At the time the LFP was demanding compensation from the operators – €456,000 per Primera game and €252,000 for La Segunda – with fees not including access to the mixed zone, Press room, the pitch or the players’ tunnel.
