JIM: No derby favourites

Juan Ignacio Martinez has refused to talk of favourites for the Levante-Valencia derby this weekend, but promises that recent defeats won’t affect Levante.

Los Granotes have lost their last two matches –  at Osasuna and Hannover – but in assessing the Sunday lunchtime derby with Valencia, JIM does not see a link to, nor a favourite for, the match.

“Of the word ‘favourite’ you know what I think, from the moment that game starts we are both absorbed in the game,” he told reporters today.

“We have the advantage of playing at home and against Valencia, who have been champion of the other League in recent seasons. With our humility and enthusiasm we will try to keep things in the balance.

“It is true that we come into this from two setbacks but they are not relevant, we just think of one game and then the next. Playing against Valencia is a major motivation.

“The derby is good for the city and for football. And it is a pleasure for all to be proud of.”
