Headers from Paulao and Ruben Castro gave Real Betis a 2-0 win over Real Sociedad on Saturday evening.
The home side began the game the brighter of the two teams, and quickly took the lead through Paulao. A cross from the left found the head of the Brazilian, who nodded past Enaut Zubikarai.
The former Braga defender almost made it two moments later, but his header this time went over the bar. Slowly Real Sociedad got back into the game, and almost levelled right on half time, as Carlos Vela had a shot saved.
Ruben Castro hit the bar immediately after half time with a rasping effort from outside the area, but it wasn't long before Philippe Montanier's side were back on top. Asier Illarramendi was close to nestling an effort into the top corner, but his shot from distance just missed the target.
Missed chances though, came back to haunt the visitors' as Ruben Castro headed in a Benat corner with eight minutes remaining to seal the points.
The evening was dampened somewhat for the home side as Mario received his marching orders on 88 minutes.
