‘This result can help Osasuna’

Jose Luis Mendilibar has praised his Osasuna players for their convincing win over Levante, urging them to follow it up in the coming weeks.

Los Rojillos defeated Los Granotes 4-0 on Sunday evening to record their first win of the season, which Mendilibar hopes will serve as a catalyst.

“We were good from the goalscorers back to the goalkeeper and we believed in what we could do,” he told reporters after the game.

“This can help. I hope this will help us to believe in ourselves and to do things with conviction.

“We must now endorse the result with another and another and another. We will achieve nothing in winning 4-0 if we do not follow it with another three points.

“We know how the game could be, with the calmness and lack of nerves of the opponent. They play without haste. The first half was very even and with few chances in front of goal. The first goal then opened up the game and it has been good to have kept a clean sheet.”

David Timor drew the ire of the home crowd in celebrating the team’s third goal of the day, when he put his hand to his ear in recognition of the whistles from the home crowd in the goalless first half. It was something Mendilibar insisted afterwards that the player is already regretting, for ‘it was unfortunate, he is a nice player and a good lad’.
