Still a long way to go says Vilanova

Barcelona boss Tito Vilanova said there is still a long way to go in La Liga after the last-gasp 3-2 win at Sevilla.

A stoppage time goal from David Villa earned the Catalans all three points, with Gary Medel sent off for the home side and a contentious goal from Cesc Fabregas after an apparent handball from Thiago Alcantara.

However, despite six wins from his first six La Liga games Vilanova told a Press conference that he is refusing to get carried away

“There is still a long way to go and many things will happen from now until the end of the season.

“We have still to visit a lot of grounds and play against other good teams, but it is the same for Real Madrid,” said Vilanova, who commented on referee Mateu Lahoz’s decision to send off Medel after an off-the-ball clash with Fabregas.

“If a player tries to head butt an opponent then it is a red card, here or anywhere else,” he said.

However, Vilanova did reserve some praise for a Sevilla side he believes are very difficult to overcome on their own ground.

“If Sevilla play at this level all season then it is going to be very, very tough for any team to come here.

“I’m sure they are going to do very well this year because they have good players and with [boss] Michel they have a good dynamic.”
