Mel: It’s a long distance race

Pepe Mel has reflected after Real Betis’ 4-0 defeat at Malaga that the season is a long-distance race for his team.

For the second League game in a row, Los Beticos conceded four goals and failed to finish the game with all 11 men on the field.

Whilst philosophical and sporting in his post-match analysis, Coach Mel admitted that these were frustrating side points.

“This is a long distance race and that we are only thinking towards Real Sociedad now,” pressed the tactician to reporters.

“Malaga are a good team that does things right and they deserved the win today, but it is also true that it was a long time for us playing with 10 men.

“Up to the minute of the red card things had gone well, we had done much going forward. I regret though that in three days we have played many minutes in more than one game with 10 men.

“But, I do not want to remove any merit from Malaga, who have won fairly. Now what remains is only work, we will not lower our heads, just thinking now about Real Sociedad.”
