Gonzalo Higuain is delighted that Real Madrid picked up the ‘necessary win’ at Rayo Vallecano, whilst Pepe is hopefull that the team build upon it.
Los Blancos ran out 2-0 winners at Vallecas in this rearranged fixture on Monday night, much to the relief of the players.
“We are happy for what was a necessary win. Luckily we won,” Higuain told reporters post match.
“[The postponement] was a rare experience for us and is something that has never happened to me before, but what was most important was that we won.
“We are trying to find our form and we after wins and hopefully this is the first of many.
“Everything is going to be difficult. Last year it was also difficult to win here. We had to win and we did not fail.”
Meanwhile, teammate Pepe has reiterated that the team must maintain their focus and desire if they are to close the eight-point gap to Barcelona at the top of the table.
“We worked very well. We have been very solid and we are going to keep fighting,” declared the Portuguese after the match.
“This season has just started and we must continue this focus in the coming weeks to record points game by game. Rayo has a great team with a lot of quality players and they hindered us in many ways.”
