Juan Ignacio Martinez has urged his Levante to enjoy their Europa League campaign, but not at the expense of their efforts in La Liga.
Los Granotes are in Europe for the first time in their 113-year history and are preparing to kick off their Europa League group stage campaign this Thursday at home to Swedish side Helsingborgs.
Whilst looking forward to the occasion himself, the Coach believes that focus cannot deviate through the season from the prime objective.
“We cannot afford any luxuries other than the League,” Martinez warned the assemble media today.
“The approach is to be in the Primera Division again next year. The game tomorrow will be a party in the stadium and we go into it with the maximum enthusiasm to try to win the game.
“Five years ago I was training in Segunda B and in La Tercera Division, I feel privileged to be here.”
Even so, JIM refused to suppose how long he and his team will be Europe.
“Let’s think just about this game – three points we hope.
“Helsingborgs seem to play in a minor League, but they are not without strength, they are a team with much potential and who are very offensive.
“Tomorrow I will change the team from the last game, but particularly for the confidence I have in the players set to come in to give me the same performance as those they are replacing. I think I can make changes that will not weaken us.”
