Mendilibar: ‘Easy to show red cards’

Jose Luis Mendilibar was unimpressed with the officiating in Osasuna’s draw with Mallorca, suggesting that decisions made were affected by the names on show.

“It is easy in a match between Osasuna and Mallorca for the officials to draw a straight red,” commented the Coach in reference to the red cards shown to Joseba Llorente Jose Nunes for a clash on the half-hour mark.

“Yesterday I saw a game [Sevilla-Real Madrid] that could have had a straight red shown, but they didn’t dare.

“He sent off both players to keep things equal. I don’t know, I’ve not seen the incident, but there may also have been a penalty in the first half for grabbing.”

The Coach also spoke on the game, which finished 1-1.

“We created more than Mallorca in the first half and played well in the second.

“We did not have many clear chances, but we’ve been strong and we got one goal, but we then changed and began to concede corners and make mistakes, so we then conceded a goal.

“I think the game was ours for the taking, but they have played to their strengths and I cannot say that they don’t deserve the point.

“I am happy with the work, but not with the result.”
