Salvio: I didn’t want Atletico return

Benfica winger Eduardo Salvio has confessed he did not want to return to Atletico Madrid after his loan spell in Portugal.

Salvio joined Los Colchoneros in January 2010 from Lanus in his native Argentina for a reported transfer fee of €10m, but failed to settle in the Spanish capital and was loaned to Benfica in August the same year.

The 22-year-old officially returned to the Vicente Calderon in May 2011 to recover from a calf injury sustained while playing for Benfica, going on to make 31 La Liga appearances last season.

However, he returned to Benfica this summer for €11m but says he never really wanted to go back to Atleti in the first place.

“It’s at Benfica where I am really happy. I never wanted to leave here to return to Atletico,” he told A Bola.
