Dorado: LFP did Atleti a favour

Real Betis defender Chechu Dorado is the latest from the club to criticise the Spanish League (LFP) for postponing Week 3’s match with Atletico Madrid.

Los Beticos’ home fixture against the Madrid side was originally scheduled to be the Monday night fixture for last weekend’s League round, before the international break.

However, Atleti successfully appealed to push the game back two-and-a-half weeks due to their involvement in the UEFA Super Cup the preceding Friday and that by the Monday they would have lost a number of their players to international duty.

However, Betis are still not impressed with how the LFP were perceived to have handled it, as Dorado reflected in today’s Press conference.

“We wanted to play but when the LFP does a favour to that club then there’s nothing we can do,” he told reporters today.

“It is useless to think about it because we now have other games ahead of us. Atletico are a team of high quality that come from winning the European Super Cup and any of their players can cause you difficulty.

“Maybe Falcao won’t play, but then Diego Costa can do very well instead, for example.”

Due to the postponement and subsequent international break, Pepe Mel’s side face a gap of 23 days between competitive matches played.

“We are experiencing a strange week in relation to the recent results. The team has not been at a good level, but we hope to come back full of energy and reverse the bad image that we have developed at home.

“We have the handicap of playing on Monday again, but we can make use of the weekend to clear our minds, correct faults and forget the game against Rayo.”

Preparations this week and next are without midfielder Benat Etxebarria, who is training with the Spain squad for their international fixtures.

“We are pleased for his return to the squad. He has shown that he can be there and of course he can become a regular for the national team, because he is already demonstrating why.

“If Vicente del Bosque and recalled him then it is because he thinks he can bring a lot to that group.”
