Betis fan faces prosecution

A Sevilla court will prosecute a Real Betis fan after he threw a bottle at Athletic Bilbao goalkeeper Armando Ribeiro during a match in 2008.

The goalkeeper was hit in the face with a glass bottle during the game on March 15, 2008, was required to have stitches in his left eye and was hospitalised for several days.

The Beticos supporter is facing a sentence of up to three years and four months in prison – three years for assault and four months for disorderly conduct.

The accused has said, according to reports, that he did not intend to cause any harm, and acted without thinking. He also faces a fine of €11,000 to be paid to Ribeiro.
