Spurs make Afellay approach

Premier League club Tottenham have made an offer for Barcelona winger Ibrahim Afellay, according to the Daily Mail.

Spurs are said to be interested in a loan deal for the 26-year-old Dutch winger, with an option to buy him after a year.

Afellay is believed to have asked Barcelona Coach Tito Vilanova if he could be left out of the team's trip to Madrid for the second leg of the Spanish Super Cup in order to accelerate the deal, which could be wrapped up by tonight.

Vilanova revealed in his pre-match press conference that he had informed Afellay, along with Jonathan dos Santos and Andreu Fontas, that he should not expect to play many games this season.

The north Londoners are not the only club interested in Afellay however, with Schalke reportedly keen on securing his services. The German outfit could prove a more tempting offer for the Dutchman, as unlike Spurs they will be playing Champions League football this season.
